Visit to Year 5
This week our Year Five students were engaging in a technology task. The students had to create a model that used forces such as air or water to move. This unit of work also helps children to understand how mechanisms such as pulleys, levers and gears work. Whilst talking with the students I was in awe in how they explained their designed and how it was going to incorporate some of these forces. They also identify the effects of air resistance, water resistance and friction, that act between moving surfaces. They also recognized that some mechanisms including levers, pulleys and gears allow a smaller force to have a greater effect. They also work scientifically by scanning different types of scientific enquiries to answer questions, including recognizing and controlling variables where necessary. Now that is the spirit of learning!
