Students setting up their own learning intentions and success criteria
Students in Year Three are being challenged around questions like ‘Why are we learning this?’ The big ideas drawn out from our students is at the very core of teaching and learning at St Therese’s.
Mr Halliday challenged students in their learning about identifying angles such as Acute, Right Straight etc. To empower the students, they developed and wrote their own learning intention: ‘We are learning to identify angles.’
The students then set about making mazes with closed and open entrances creating all sorts of angles. When I came into the room the students were very keen to tell me about their learning intention. When I asked them about how they would know they have been successful, they replied “ look at our mazes!’
Now that is the spirit of students making sense of their learning!
