Principal Visit to Year 2 -Classroom Meets Technology
This afternoon I visited Mrs O’Bryan and met up also with another teacher Mrs Julie Dore, who had the students engaging with Bee-bots Bee-Bots are a wonderful tool to teach our students the fundamentals of computational thinking. The small robot can remember up to 40 commands consisting of forward, backward, left and right movements to maneuver around the floor. These commands develop student’s understanding of sequencing, computational thinking, and the mathematical concepts of coordinates, distance, and location. As you can see by the photos the Bee-Bots promote many benefits for our Year Two students such as
- Students engage, explore, interact and communicate with one another
- Students learn together
- Students learn in context and then are able to reflect on the subject
- Exposes students to a range of learning opportunities across the curriculum
- For our teachers, we are able to monitor, observe and evaluate children’s literacy skills (such as listening and speaking), and numeracy skills (such as counting). Now that is the spirit of learning!
