Starting Prep is an exciting milestone for both children and their families. At St Therese’s School, we are committed to making the transition to “big school” a positive, smooth, and enjoyable experience for every child as they begin their formal schooling journey.
Families seeking to enrol their child in Prep for 2027 are encouraged to submit an application now. Enrolment forms are available via our website or can be collected from the school office. With strong demand expected for Prep places, we recommend lodging your application as early as possible.
Please note that all prospective students must submit an enrolment application, including siblings of current St Therese’s students.
Prep Transition Program
Each year, we offer a five-week Prep Transition Program designed to support both children and their families. This program gives children the opportunity to become familiar with the school environment, build relationships, and develop confidence as they prepare for their first day of school.
To further support your child’s transition, families are encouraged to access helpful resources such as the Starting Prep page on Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns.
Prep has been the first year of compulsory schooling since 2017, and children are generally required to complete Prep before commencing Year 1.
To be eligible for Prep, children must turn 5 years of age on or before 30 June in the year they begin school. In certain circumstances, the Principal may approve a one-month age exemption.
